Rainbow Springs is not only a first magnitude spring located in Dunnellon, Florida but is also the fourth largest spring in Florida - producing over 490 gallons of water per day. Rainbow Springs was originally named Blue Springs (and Wekiwa Creek by the Seminoles) until becoming one of Florida's unique original roadside attractions in the 1930s consisting of submarine boat tours, waterfalls, mermaids, a zoo, rodeo and even an over-water monorail then becoming a Florida State Park in the 1990s.
Today at Rainbow Springs Florida State Park there is still plenty of fun to be had with fresh water spring swimming, camping, paddling, floating, hiking, birding, onamental gardens and you can even still enjoy the historic waterfalls (Rainbow Falls is the tallest clocking in at 60 feet!) through the winding paved nature walkways. This is an incredibly popular Florida State Park and will reach capacity during the summer high season, so be sure to set your alarm and get to this incredible park first thing in the morning!
