The Florida National Scenic Trail is a hiking trail that stretches nearly 1500 miles through the sunshine state! The trail was first designated by the National Scenic Trail in 1983 and since then has continued to grow and develop thanks to hundreds of incredible volunteers. The Florida Trail is one of only 11 National Scenic Trails in the United States - including the Pacific Crest Trail and Appalachian Trail - so cool! The trail can be quite challenging with most hikers starting at the southern terminus during dry season hiking through the swampy terrain of Big Cypress National Preserve, around Lake Okeechobee, through historic cattle ranches, through the vast Florida prairies and ending with a sandy hike across the Gulf Island National Seashore in the panhandle. Most hikers cross off sections of the Florida trail one at a time - are you brave enough to tackle the 1500 mile through hike? Be sure to pack lots of bug spray!
